Dustin Dixon was born and raised in Anderson, Indiana. After graduating from Anderson Highland High School in 1995, Dustin served three years of active duty as a Field Artillery Forward Observer in the U.S. Army from 1995-1998 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Hood, Texas.

A HISTORY OF SERVICE
23 YEARS
After receiving an Honorable Discharge from active duty in 1998, Dustin attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology with a minor in Consumer Finance. During his college years, he worked as a Youth Detention Officer at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.
He also completed an internship with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. In 2001, Dustin was hired by Hamilton County Prosecutor Sonia Leerkamp to serve as the Pretrial Diversion Coordinator.
This position worked with the courts and the Prosecutor’s Office to supervise individuals on pretrial diversion for minor criminal and traffic offenses. Dustin was based in the Hamilton County Probation Department and established a relationship with many county employees within the courthouse during this time. In 2002, Dustin was hired as a Merit Deputy at the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office by Sheriff L. Joe Cook.
Dustin completed field training prior to attending the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy where he served as a Squad Leader and graduated as a Honors Graduate in 2003. Dustin was then assigned as a patrol deputy on the afternoon shift. Dustin was selected as an agency canine handler in 2005 and handled three different multi- purpose canines from 2005-2019.
It was during this time that Dustin had the opportunity to develop relationships with several local, county and state agencies both within and outside of Hamilton County. Dustin and his canines had a reputation as one of the premier teams in the area.
Dustin was promoted to Sergeant in 2010 and led both the agency’s Canine Unit and the agency’s K9 Tactical Tracking Team while still serving in the Patrol Division. Under his leadership, the agency’s K9 Tactical Tracking Team took on a more diverse role and bore responsibility for tactical response, search and rescue, Project Lifesaver, etc.

In 2019, Dustin was promoted to Lieutenant and supervised one of the Patrol Division’s night shift squads along with continuing to supervise the agency’s Canine Unit and K9 Tactical Tracking Team.

Dustin’s Story
In December 2019, Dustin was reassigned to the Investigations Division to serve as the Lieutenant in that division. In this assignment, Dustin was second-in-command in the division and supervised detectives, School Resource Officers and Property Room detectives along with assisting with the division’s budget and technological advancements and implementation.
He worked on a regular basis with local law enforcement agencies, Department of Child Services, Cherish Center, Hamilton County Community Corrections, Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, Parole, Hamilton Heights School Corporation and several other agencies while also investigating criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicide. Dustin specialized in investigating and apprehending fugitive warrants and served as a representative on the Child Protection Team, Child Fatality Review Team, Hamilton Heights School Corporation Safety Committee, etc.
The division made several advancements in the use of technology in investigating criminal offenses including cell phone analysis, UAV program, automobile forensic software, facial recognition software and the use of social media in criminal investigations.
Additionally, he helped lead the process to hire the agency’s first Intelligence Analyst. In January 2023, Dustin returned to the Patrol Division as a shift commander and focused his efforts on mentoring and training deputies and building community relationships.

Throughout his time in law enforcement, Dustin has continued to attend in-service and specialized training assignments amassing thousands of hours of training.

Some of his notable trainings include:
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Leadership Academy, three sessions in canine handler basic courses, the Hamilton County Leadership Academy, Internal Affairs, Reid Interview and Interrogation, Field Training Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, CIT, STOPS Instructor, Standardized Field Sobriety Instructor, Basic School Resource Officer, Instructor Development, Advanced SWAT Tactics along with multiple other leadership, legal, tactical and specialized courses. Dustin has served on nearly every specialized team within the agency including the Crash Reconstruction Team, K9 Unit, K9 Tactical Tracking Team, Honor Guard, Jail Discipline Board, SERT Team, SFST Instructor, STOPS Instructor, School Resource Officer, Drug Recognition Expert, Field Training Officer along with serving and chairing multiple hiring, transfer and promotion boards.
Dustin has been awarded the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office “Merit Deputy of the Year” award and the Frank Huntzinger American Legion Deputy of the Year award. He also has received the agency’s Medal of Valor, Unit Commendation ribbon and two Lifesaving Awards. While working off-duty assignments, Dustin has done event security for concerts, churches (including Grace Church, White River Christian Church, College Park Church and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church), large events, VIP details, etc. and managed security for several corporations within Hamilton County. He and his business partner have a security business that employs several active and retired law enforcement officers and provides security and consulting for multiple locations throughout Central Indiana.
Dustin and his wife of nearly 22 years, Roslynn, live in Noblesville along with their teenage son. They have been residents of Hamilton County since 2001. He enjoys boating on Morse Reservoir, live music, golf, weightlifting and is a musician. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 103, Cicero Kiwanis and the Morse Waterways Association as well as serving on the Lights Over Morse Lake Committee. He also serves on the board of the non-profits Shop For Kids Inc. (President) and Noblesville Youth Assistance Program (Vice President).
